Freedom School

Freedom School

The CDF Freedom Schools program provides summer enrichment that helps children fall in love with reading, increases their self-esteem, and generates more positive attitudes toward learning. Children are taught using a model curriculum that supports children and families around five essential components: high quality academic enrichment; parent and family involvement; civic engagement and social action; intergenerational leadership development; and nutrition, health and mental health.

Studies have shown that students who participate in Freedom Schools do not experience the typical summer reading loss and more often gain in their reading skills over the summer.

The Lima Area Freedom School will be June 19-July 28th from 8am-3pm, Monday-Friday.  We are hosting 2 Freedom School sites in Lima: South SciTech Magnet school will serve students currently in Kindergarten-6th grade and Bradfield Community Center will host students in 5th-8th grade.

College students and recent college graduates will serve as Servant Leader Interns and will provide mentoring and leadership to this program. There is no charge for children for this 6 week program outside of a sliding scale registration fee so we need a variety of sponsorships and donations. We invite you to consider offering your support.
